Building Toys for Boys
There are lots of great building toys for boys. I love building toys because my boys never grow tired of
them and they encourage them to get creative and use their imaginations. Here are some of the best building
toys for boys:
ZOOB - ZOOBs are a lot of fun for boys. The parts allow kids to create moveable creations
from dinosaurs and people to vehicles.
If your child loves cars, I recommend starting with the
ZOOB ZOOB Mobile Car Designer Set . The
ZOOB 125-Piece Set is also a great starter set.
ZOOBs are recommended for ages 5 and up.
Wedgits - Wedgits are uniquely fun blocks that nest and stack in numerous ways. Kids and
adults alike are drawn to them. Part of the draw may be the infinite number of ways you can stack them
to make designs and creations. Everything from frogs to robots can be created with Wedgits.
Wedgits are for ages 2 and up. They also make
Wee Wedgits which are recommended for age 1 and up.
Stonees Building Blocks - These cool building stones are a winner of Creative Child's Magazine Top Toy of the Year.
Kids love the fun to stack shape and as a parent, I appreciated the fact that they were made of natural
materials and come from Canada, not China.
Recommended for ages 3 and up but my 2 year old loves them too.
Dado Squares Building Set - This award winning building toy from Fat Brain Toys allows kids to create three dimensional
structures.
Each set includes 35 3inch squares that interlock in numerous ways. Recommended for ages 2 and up.
CITIBLOCS Wooden Building Blocks - Citiblocs are long wooden planks that boys can stack to build everything from buildings to
boats and anything else they can imagine.
Citiblocs don't require any gluing or snapping in order to work. Best for ages 5 and up. Lots of fun
for teenagers and adults too.
Classic Building Toys
Not to be overlooked, there are some great classic building toys that are very popular with boys. Here are
a few of my kids favorites:
Classic Wood Unit Blocks like the
Melissa & Doug Standard Unit Blocks offer kids lots of opportunities for creative building fun. From stacking fun to building
structures, unit blocks provide endless possibilities.
Unit Blocks are best for boys from ages 1 to 6.
Lego - Legos are one of those toys that never grow old no matter how old your kids get. My
son has a box of legos he plays with that used to belong to his dad. We have added to it over the years
buying him Lego building sets.
If your child is just getting started with Legos, the
LEGO Ultimate Building Set is a good way to get them started. It has 405 pieces including a building plate, figure,
wheels, doors, and windows. It also comes with tub for convenient storage and some building
ideas.
While standard Legos are great for boys ages 4 and up,
Lego Duplo are a big hit with the 4 and under crowd. The bigger sized duplos are perfect for little
hands.
